Mitochondria and ageing

Elamipretide / SS-31

Editorial audit: October 15, 2026 · draft; scientific, medical and translation review pending

01What is reported

SS-31 is described for fatigue, athletic recovery and mitochondrial optimization, sometimes paired with metabolic compounds.

02Proposed rationale

Mitochondrial membrane biology explains research interest. “Mitochondrial support” must be translated into a defined patient outcome.

03What the research shows

Forzinity received a narrow US accelerated approval in 2025 for muscle strength in Barth syndrome in patients meeting the labeled weight threshold.

NOT A RECOMMENDATION.Each amount is attributed to the source identified for that entry: regulatory product labeling, human research, or community and practice sources. These source categories have different evidentiary roles. They are not medical advice, not a protocol, not a recommended or safe dose, and not evidence that it works. Do not use them to start, change or stop any treatment. Talk to a qualified healthcare professional.

04Limits and unknowns

The small study and approval conditions matter. This is not approval for general fatigue, anti-aging, athletic optimization or every research-grade SS-31 vial. FDA’s trial snapshot reports that the randomized primary endpoints were not superior to placebo; strength increases were observed during the extension.

05Questions to ask about the product

Is the discussion about the authorized product and labeled population, or a different preparation and intended use?

06Open research question

How frequently do community claims omit the rare-disease population and substitute a broad optimization claim?
